Flavor Profile

Bold, warm, and licorice-forward with hints of clove and fennel. 
Uses

dd broken star anise to pho, soups, and Asian broths. Use in braises, stews, and slow-cooked dishes. Add to mulled wine, cider, and other warm beverages. Star anise enhances pork, duck, and other rich meats. Use in poaching liquids for fruit, or add to baked goods featuring fruit. Remove before serving. For a fine powder, grind using a blender or mortar and pestle. The powder can be used as a seasoning or blended with other spices to create homemade mixes such as Chinese Five Spice.
